Understand and operate the Mini-Whip and other Acive Whip Antennas
The idea of combining antennas with active components became a technical reality when field-effect transistors got widely available in the 1970s. Radio amateurs and shortwave listeners soon discovered the advantages of these simple active antenna concepts.  Some years ago Roeloff Bakker, PA0RDT, had the clever idea to use a piece of copper plated printed circuit board as an antenna element instead of a rod/whip and to place a simple amplifier on the same piece of the pcb. He published this active antenna in an article and called his design "Mini-Whip". Since then the name "Mini-Whip" is now a common synonym for active whip antennas.

This compendium is intended to provide some basic knowledge of the function, to show examples of practical circuits and to give some practical advice on how to get the most out of active whip antennas.

Considerations about the useof balanced active antennas for reception.
Active Dipole Antennas as the electrical quivalent to the small magnetic loop, are worth to have a closer look at. For many years I have been experimenting with active antennas and have built a lot of Whips, loops and dipoles. I have found that the dipole is an excellent broadband active antenna that avoids many of the disadvantages of an active Whip or Monopole. For this reason, I have put together a white paper on the Akriv Dipol. I hope some can benefit from the information contained therein.
